In Chasing Sunshine, the story kicks off with Robin, a socially awkward yet sharp-witted private investigator, setting off on a new case in the Arizona desert. Meanwhile, his partner and love, Martin, remains in New York, juggling his daily routine and the ache of separation. Their lives, though filled with quirks and challenges, seem ordinary—until a freak thunderstorm barrels through New York City, knocking out power and leaving chaos in its wake. The morning after, while biking through a drenched and eerie Central Park, Martin stumbles upon a shimmering reflection in the grass. Before he can process what he sees, he’s pulled through a mysterious portal, leaving his phone—and his world—behind.

On the other side, Martin discovers Ismosia, a fantastical kingdom where he’s transformed into a noble knight on a quest to save the realm. To his shock, he meets Ismosian versions of the people he loves, including Robin, who plead with him to stay. As Martin is drawn deeper into this magical world, he’s forced to confront his desires, his fears, and what truly matters. Back in reality, Robin grows increasingly frantic over Martin’s sudden disappearance. Struggling to balance his investigation in Arizona with his grief, he embarks on his own journey of self-discovery, learning how to live without the one person who completes him. In the end, both Martin and Robin must navigate their parallel trials, rediscover their inner strength, and choose between the fantastical and the real—ultimately realizing the messy beauty of the lives they share.
