Captured

Mixed Media Project

Colour Captured is a vibrant multi-media project that blends digital and traditional techniques to create bold and captivating portraits. Each piece begins as a digital sketch in Procreate, printed onto cold press watercolor paper, and painted with gouache for rich, bright, and contrasting colors. Utilizing complementary color schemes, the works feature bold yet simple backgrounds that enhance the subject’s presence and command attention. The portraits are designed to feel "alive," gazing back at the viewer with intensity and energy, encapsulating the essence of the title,

"Colour Captured." This series combines technical precision with emotional depth, celebrating both artistic expression and the dynamic connection between subject and audience.

What is a complimentary colour palette?

A complementary color palette is made up of two colors that sit opposite each other on the color wheel—like blue and orange, red and green, or yellow and purple. When you pair them together, they naturally make each other pop, creating this bold contrast that immediately grabs your attention. This technique is widely used in art and design to create balance, energy, and a sense of harmony, as the colors work together to intensify their mutual impact.

In Colour Captured, the use of a complementary color palette is essential to the project’s vision. The contrasting hues draw immediate attention to the subject while adding a sense of vibrancy and life to each portrait. This intentional use of color emphasizes the dynamism of the artwork, ensuring that each piece feels bold and alive. It also creates a striking visual dialogue between the subject and its background, reinforcing the idea of "capturing" and amplifying the emotional connection with the viewer.
